Salary:  $72,800-$93,600

Position Summary:

Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) seeks applicants for the Deputy Distributed Organizing Director role for the 2022 midterm election cycle who are passionate about assisting in developing and supporting direct voter contact programs.   The Deputy Distributed Organizing Director will assist the National Distributed Organizing Director manage the day-to-day operations of the Distributed Organizing program for the 2022 election cycle across multiple Senate battleground states nationwide.  This program will be modeled off of prior campaigns that have tried this form of organizing in past cycles including Beto O’Rourke’s 2018 campaign in Texas and Elizabeth Warren’s efforts in the 2020 presidential primaries.

The Deputy Distributed Organizing Director will be responsible for implementing and overseeing distributed organizing programs in multiple states ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. The supervisory scope of this position includes the day-to-day management of state level Distributed Organizing full-time  staff through a strong managerial structure, which will include 1 State Coordinator per program state and up to 6 Field Representative Organizers to assist in canvassing operations on the ground. This will include hiring and then directly working with both HQ and state level staff on a daily basis, providing feedback coaching staff, monitoring progress while holding staff accountable to goals, and troubleshooting miscellaneous issues as they arise.  The Deputy Distributed Organizing Director will be responsible for working with the National Distributed Organizing Director and other HQ program staff to oversee the implementation of state specific plans that include recruiting, hiring and onboarding approximately 400 field representatives per state in key Senate battleground states across the country during the final weeks of the 2022 election.

In addition to the supervisory scope of this role, the Deputy Distributed Organizing Director, will also be responsible for the management and implementation of all supply chains for physical materials and resources, training materials, and workflows that will make our distributed organizing fieldwork possible. The duties of this position are subject to modification in response to program or organizational needs.

This position will be remote, with the option to be based out of our Chicago HQ if local, and some travel may be required to the program states from the launch of the program through Election Day.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and apply our organizational values to foster a strong culture based on trust and mutual respect
  • Collaborate with PTP’s National Distributed Organizing Director to finalize and implement the 2022 Distributed Organizing program in assigned states
  • Hire up to seven direct reports (State Coordinators) responsible for outreach, onboarding and program management within the first 60 days
  • In coordination with the recruitment team, oversee the process of recruiting, interviewing and onboarding approximately 400 contracted Field Representatives per each program state 
  • Collaborate with PTP leadership, including the Human Resources team, and Recruitment team  to develop a plan for interviewing and onboarding field representatives and ensure staff have the resources and tools needed to create a smooth interview and onboarding process
  • Conduct Field Representative interviews as needed
  • In collaboration with the National Distributed Organizing Director, drive the process of creating and implementing the onboarding curriculum, scripts, and corresponding guides and resources that will be needed to assist Field Representatives in achieving their voter contact goals 
  • Provide feedback regarding the efficacy of our onboarding curriculum and work with the National Distributed Organizing Director and the State Coordinators to ensure there’s a support program in place for field representatives  to have the resources and tools needed to meet their direct voter contact goals
  • Drive the implementation, management, and tracking of all supply deliverables on a mission-critical timeline, ensuring timely completion of tasks in line with program objectives
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the Deputy Data Director of Engineering and Digital Recruitment Coordinator, coordinating efforts and work on systems that measure and track the interview process and direct voter contact progress to ensure in-state teams meet their direct voter contact goals
  • Maintain and model high standards to ensure data systems and integrity meet the highest degree
  • Provide regular daily reports (quantifiably and quantitatively) regarding program progress to the National Distributed Organizing Director
  • Following safety protocols for COVID, travel as needed  to program states to oversee implementation of key program milestones and gain on-the-ground insight into program execution
  • Participate in a deep-dive debrief of program after Election Day with the National Distributed Organizing Director and Executive Director to provide recommendations for any potential future iterations of the program

Qualifications (You will be a good fit if):

  • You have at least 3+ years of supervising large teams and project management experience
  • You have 3+ years of Field or equivalent organizing experience that has contributed to advanced knowledge within Field work and basic knowledge across all related political/campaign areas
  • You are committed to establishing a culture of community and respect in the workplace, and contributing to the development of best practices
  • You have a proven record of contributing to successful projects and managing high functioning teams remotely and can work across departments with ease
  • You manage program issues in a way that brings disparate stakeholders together to resolve issues and complete action items that contribute to the success of the program
  • You take a leading role in highly-pressurized situations when there is a need to resolve high priority issues, working through the issues with grit and a solutions-oriented approach
  • You have exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills that you have used to communicate to a diverse set of audiences
  • You are able to travel as needed to Senate battleground states
  • You’re proficient in G Suite Products (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc) and VAN (especially list building, turf cutting, monitoring canvass results, and managing MiniVAN users)

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • You are fluent in Spanish
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office
