Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) is the largest voter contact organization in the country. Our mission: Get Democrats to vote. We design, test, and execute specialized voter turnout programs targeting inconsistent Democratic voters in the most competitive elections up and down the ballot. Since 2015, our trained Field staff, Fellows, and volunteers have made more than 59 million voter contact attempts across 39 states. PTP is grassroots funded, with more than 2.2 million unique donors and an average contribution of $17.39.


Position Summary:

Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) seeks applicants for the Deputy Data Director of Experimentation role for the 2022 election cycle who have experience and interest in executing experiments and developing advanced targeting. This position will be based out of our Chicago, IL, headquarters, with remote options available.


The Deputy Data Director is responsible for developing target universes and their segments for various field tactics, under the supervision of the Data & Analytics Director. In addition, the Deputy Data Director will manage the creation, execution, and analysis of various experiments. This includes, but is not limited to, experiment design, creating treatment and control groups, and measuring effect. The duties of this position are subject to modification in response to program or organizational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Create sophisticated models for targeting various segments of the broader universe
  • Monitor and make adjustments to targeting as universes shift
  • Design and execute detailed experiments, including randomized control trials
  • Clean and synthesize data sets
  • Monitor progress and quality-control on experiment execution
  • Track and analyze findings from experiments and program work throughout cycle
  • Manage and further develop relationships with relevant research institutions
  • Stay apprised of the latest research and tactics in the progressive field space

Qualifications (You will be a good fit if):

  • You have led experiment design and execution in a professional or academic setting
  • You understand best practices in determining treatment and control group size 
  • You are comfortable manipulating large data sets
  • You maintain a high-level knowledge in Statistics 
  • You are proficient in SQL, or have other query experience
  • You have experience using VAN, especially as an administrator
  • You are experienced in writing reports and have strong technical writing abilities
  • You are proficient in Excel/Google Sheets at an advanced level
  • You have experience working in the progressive political data space
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, oft-shifting environment and are comfortable reacting quickly and effectively to changing needs 
  • You consistently deliver solutions in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others
  • Learn and apply our organizational values to foster a strong culture based on trust and mutual respect

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • You have experience with Civis, specifically Platform
  • You are experienced using Python, R, or another programming language for manipulating data and scientific use
  • You hold a degree in statistics, mathematics, or a research-focused social science
