Salary: $93,600 to $114,400/year

About Progressive Turnout Project:

Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) is the largest voter contact organization in the country. Our mission: Get Democrats to vote. We design, test, and execute specialized voter turnout programs targeting inconsistent Democratic voters in the most competitive elections up and down the ballot. Since 2015, our trained Field staff, Fellows, and volunteers have made more than 59 million voter contact attempts across 39 states. PTP is grassroots funded, with more than 2.2 million unique donors and an average contribution of $17.39.


Position Summary:

Progressive Turnout Project seeks applicants for our Language Accessibility Director role. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full translation needs across the organization from English to Spanish, both written and spoken, connecting staff, partners, and voters who speak languages other than English to each other, and managing staff. They will need to build out the Language Accessibility Department, including hiring, training, and managing staff who are responsible for translation within our Field program, as well as our Spanish Language Hotline.  


During the 2022 election cycle, we will have over 59 Field offices in the seven Senate battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin running our direct voter contact programs. Every community that our offices are embedded in will have Spanish speakers on the team and voters who exclusively speak languages other than English. The Language Accessibility Department will need to support all staff to communicate with voters and make their work more effective.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and apply our organizational values to foster a strong culture based on trust and mutual respect

  • Manage the translation of all materials from English to Spanish, including but not limited to canvassing materials, website pages, social media posts, press releases, event notifications, scripts, and voter information

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage at least one translator for the Field program, as well as a Spanish Language Hotline Administrator who will run a hotline for our staff to call in order to bridge a language barrier with a voter

  • Support program staff with additional language barriers by finding local resources and organizations who can speak different languages to connect with voters

  • Verify the fluence of all candidates who include Spanish proficiency on their resumes throughout the hiring process

  • Train Field staff for best practices for overcoming language barriers and managers to be inclusive of staff whose first language is not English

Required Qualifications (You will be a good fit if):

  • You are fluent in Spanish, both written and spoken, with 5+ years of translation work that has contributed to advanced knowledge of how to translate information in the best way possible

  • You are committed to establishing a culture of community and respect in the workplace, and contributing to the development of best practices

  • You have extensive management and project management experience

  • You have a proven record of managing successful, large programs across multiple functions and locations, utilizing the uppermost levels of expertise in resolving issues in challenging and complex situation

  • You take a leading role in highly-pressurized situations when there is a need to resolve high priority issues, working through the issues with grit and a solutions-oriented approach

  • You consistently deliver solutions in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others

  • You have exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills that you have used to communicate to a diverse set of audiences

  • You’re proficient in G Suite Products (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc)

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • You have Field experience or equivalent organizing experience that has contributed to advanced knowledge within Field work and basic knowledge across all related political/campaign areas
